Title: Foot in the mouth
Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up – Ephesians 4:29
Oh the old foot in the mouth disease; we have all been there right? I remember when I was kid, it seemed like we were always talking about and making fun of someone or being talked about and made fun of. Looking back, the reason I did it as a kid is the same reason I have done it as an adult; to elevate myself and make someone feel lower then myself. It is no fun when someone walks in and overhears you saying something that wasn’t intended for them to hear. We get that feeling of blood rushing from our head and the embarrassment of having to face that person. A few words can tear someone down fast. Also, I am sure we have all been in the spot where we were talked about so we know the feeling on that side as well.
Why can’t we think of those feelings before we say them? It seems we have difficulty building people up because it feels funny and not very manly. It takes a humble man to encourage and build others up. It takes a real man to think of others first and to recognize an opportunity to say or do something nice for someone. Choose to build someone up today and think before you speak.
Real Men build and encourage one another.
