Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall. – Proverbs 16:18
The “P” word. This word “pride” seems to be the root of all of our sinful nature and desires. We all have desires and desires in themselves aren’t necessarily bad. It is the prideful thought and the prideful action where we can get into trouble.
Once we think we deserve something or we think we are correct; prideful actions follow to make sure we get what we deserve or prove that we’re right! This leads to all kinds of bad things. We become distant from God and we get to thinking that we can do anything without consequence. This is not the case. The verse is very clear that we can expect to fall at some point. We can’t act independent of God’s will and expect good things.
Real men recognize the destruction pride can have.
