Title: Don’t hand it over

I will not deny my integrity. – Job 27:5b

I periodically utilize a method designed to reinforce someone’s resolve to resist old beliefs about themselves and begin thinking anew. It involves identifying a truth they wish to uphold and then handing them a couch pillow.

“We’re going to play a little game. This pillow represents your new belief, and I’m going to try and take it from you.” I then attempt to persuade them to surrender it, using projections of their own negative self-talk, such as, “You know you don’t really deserve it, so just hand it back.”

Surprisingly, some hand it back without hesitation, not realizing the point of the game.

Brad Peterson

As a husband, dad, pastor, counselor, hoop legend (the older he gets the better he was), Brad finds himself a jack of all trades master of none. Basketball, family trips and exploring new food sauces are some of the things he enjoys most.
