Title: A simple thought
Set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity. – 1 Timothy 4:12b
“Set an example.” How should that look? The story begins in Philadelphia, where Benjamin Franklin lived. The city was a rough place. You for sure didn’t want to be out at night. The crime rate was high, and it wasn’t wise to be out and about. So the story has it that Benjamin tried to convince people to put lights outside their homes, but no one listened or seemed to care. One night, he decided to put a kerosene lamp on his porch. It lit up an area big enough to reach the street. A few nights later, a neighbor put one up, then another, and so on.
I like this story because it gives us the how to set an example. A simple thought to make his little area feel safe and warm had a positive impact on the city.
Let us look for ways to put your lamp out there.
Real men look for ways to be an example.
