Title: It doesn’t feel good
Set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity. – 1 Timothy 4:12b
There are lots of ways to set an example, but as I write this, I remember a time early in my career when I didn’t set a good one with my words. I had a problem at work with a vendor who wasn’t finishing the job on time, and it made me really frustrated. I sent a harsh email and copied my regional boss, thinking he would see I was being tough and taking charge. After I hit send, I waited for my boss to praise me.
But instead of praise, my boss sent my own email back to me, this time with my name in it. OUCH! At the bottom, he wrote, “It doesn’t feel good, right? A little compassion and understanding will go a long way.” I’ve never forgotten that lesson, and even now, I always double-check the words I use.
