Title: Do as I do.
Set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity. – 1 Timothy 4:12b
Would you rather follow someone who just tells you what to do, or someone who actually shows you? I grew up in a military family, where I was often given orders but not taught how to do things. I didn’t like it, because I didn’t always understand what I was supposed to do, and it made me resent that kind of leadership. My uncle was different—he explained things and spent time with me, and I really enjoyed being around him. That experience shaped how I treat people now. I work with young adults, and they really appreciate this approach. When I asked them why, they said, “It makes you seem real to us.” That matters, because this generation can spot someone who isn’t genuine right away. You know the type, right?
The “do as I say, not as I do” type. I want to encourage you to be the kind of man who leads by example, so younger men can see what it looks like to live a godly life.
