Title: In place of God
Those who cling to worthless idols turn away from God’s love for them. – Jonah 2:8
An idol is an image,object or person.
Idols can be every day things that we have and use that can take the place of God. A person is an interesting thought though, isn’t it? When you look up idol in a thesaurus they list – hero, icon, and superstar as a different way of looking at the word. These things seem harmless but this form of idolatry can sneak up on us, there is even a talent show called ” American Idol” that gives you the dreams and hope that you could become an idol to someone. A few other examples – sports shirts with players names, concert tee shirts, reading every ounce of print about superstars etc… There nothing wrong with the superstars themselves, it’s just where we chose to place them in our lives.
We need to remember we have a Jealous God that wants our affections. The above mentioned can very easily replace the time and resources we have to spend with God. Surrender yourself and your idols to God and let him receive all the glory!
