Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall. – Proverbs 16:18
Sin is a state of being, a disease – and one of its nastiest symptoms is pride. Lucifer was cast down to the earth because of pride – self-sufficiency that placed his allegiance on himself rather than God. [Isaiah 14:12-15] Our broken humanity exalts autonomy and disparages dependency. Yet we are called to surrender ourselves to God. This is easy to talk about but difficult to practice – it goes against our old nature. The Holy Spirit is called “The Helper.” Ask Him to help you to surrender your pride and live in absolute dependence on God. He’s good.
