Title: The P word
Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall. – Proverbs 16:18
The “P” word. This word “pride” seems to be the root of all of our sinful nature and desires. We all have wants, and desires in themselves are not necessarily bad. It is the prideful thought and the prideful action where we can get into trouble, thinking we deserve everything we want.
Once we think we deserve something, or we think we are correct, prideful actions follow to make sure we get what we deserve or prove that we’re right! This leads to all kinds of bad things. We become distant from God, and we get to thinking that we can do anything without consequence. This is not the case. The verse is self-explanatory and we can expect to fall at some point. We can’t act independently of God’s will and expect good things.
