Title: Obedience is protection
“This has been my practice: I obey your precepts” – Psalm 119:56
When I was a kid, hearing the word “obey” would really make the hair on my neck stand up. Maybe it’s just me, but it made me want to disobey or resist; it was like a challenge to do the opposite and not comply. It felt very controlling and condescending.
Then I had kids of my own, and I found myself using the word with frequency. Then it hit me that when I use this word, I had my kid’s best interests in mind. God feels the same way about us; He wants us to comply with and follow His commands for our own good, as it gives us direction, safety, and protection. It is comforting to realize that God always has our best interests in mind.
