Title: The art of honoring others

Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves. – Romans 12:10

As a male of Latin descent, I was brought up in a culture where the men were served by the women. Literally, I can remember my mom doing all the washing and cleaning, and at dinner time, she would serve my plate and hand it to me then she and my sisters would clean the kitchen. So that example of serving should have rubbed off on me right…wrong. All I learned was how to be a taker, not a giver.

I had to learn the art of honoring others above myself. It wasn’t until I read the story about how our Savior washed the feet of his followers that I truly understood.  The thought of the Creator of the universe, washing dirty, smelly feet broke me and brought me to a place of humility. He gave up His deity, was going to give up His life, but still wanted to honor His followers, and he did it without hesitation, putting their need to be loved above His needs.

Likewise, guys, we should work on developing the mindset of honoring others by giving ourselves away

.Real men honor others.
