Sunday // Sacrifice :: Exalt

Title: Step Back

For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted. Matthew 23:12

Did you notice? Jesus is prophesying here. In this passage, Jesus is talking about how the teachers and Pharisees like to be important and to be respected. Jesus reminds people to listen to him and not the Pharisees. Then he leaves them with this puzzling statement.

The teachers and Pharisees called attention to themselves with their fancy clothes and long prayers. They were eventually humbled. However, the humbling death of Jesus resulted in ultimate exaltation!

This principle isn’t just for Jesus and the Pharisees. Some of my biggest failures and mistakes had come from moments when I thought I had it all together and began calling attention to myself.

Here’s a quick prayer for today: Lord, thank you for humbling yourself on the cross for me. I want to take a step back from my desires and give this day to you.

Real Men put God first.
