So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh – Galatians 5:16
Walking in the Spirit is the key, but it doesn’t always come easily. Often, it is a battle. A battle is happening inside Christian men between the flesh and the Spirit. As Paul is saying, the two go against each other. When the flesh is winning, you do not do the things that you wish. You don’t live the way you want to live; you live under the flesh instead of the Spirit.
When the flesh begins to win, the only fix I found is to take the sword of the Spirit, the word of salvation, and battle against the flesh. If I am not in the word, I am helpless against the flesh. I can’t battle the flesh on my own. I have been fired upon by many fleshly passions, but as soon as I took hold of some Scripture passage, my temptations left me. Without the Word, I could not have helped myself against the flesh.
