Title: Listen Up
He says, ‘Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth. – Psalm 46:10
Most men are better at doing than listening.
We can fix things. Build things. Move things. Plan things. Lead things. But sitting still long enough to listen to God can feel harder than working all day.
Psalm 46:10 says, “Be still, and know that I am God.”
This command is much-needed medicine for the souls of busy, driven, and tired men. Men carrying more than they admit. Men who are so used to noise, pressure, responsibility, and constant movement that silence feels uncomfortable.
It is also an important shift in perspective. This is why 12-step programs begin with a similar concept. In this context, it is almost like saying, “If I act like I am god, my life becomes unmanageable because everything falls on my shoulders. I become self-centered, difficult to live with, and may even try to self-medicate.”
To be still and know that He is God is also to admit that I am definitely not God. But I have to pause long enough to realize that the way we often live our daily lives can reveal a deeper belief: that maybe we think we are the god of our own lives.
The voice of God usually does not compete with the volume of our lives. He invites us to quiet down, pay attention, and trust that He is already present.
A man who never listens will eventually confuse his own pressure for God’s direction.
