Title: Spiritual Hunger
For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart! – Hebrews 4:12
Real food is fuel, and God’s Word is fuel. Spiritual food or hunger was always a head-scratcher for me. I finally got a simple explanation that makes total sense to me.
Physical food – We get hungry and desire food to satisfy that need. The hunger goes away after we eat; I really enjoy good food.
Spiritual food – It is the opposite of real food. If we don’t feed ourselves spiritual nourishment, we will start to get less hungry. The less we eat, the less appetite we have. Scary thought, but it can happen: days can turn into weeks, weeks into months, and we can be out of the Word before we know it.
So how do we get hungry or stay hungry for God’s Word? The Word is active, so we read until something sparks the embers and re-lights the flame. Sit or stand, read quietly or out loud, but let the Word take over and meet you where you are today.
