Wednesday// Grit:: Influence

Title I needed to hear it.

Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ. – 1 Corinthians 11:1

Growing up as boys, we are always told that we need to behave like men. We didn’t know what that meant. Stereotypically, most people think that men are these brute and emotionless creatures that are here for whatever big and heavy task is at hand. From an early age, we are told that showing emotion and love is a sign of weakness, and we often get teased or ridiculed if we do.

So, we learn to suppress that and take every hit on the chin. Guys, deep down, I know that none of that matters. We can have this hard outer shell that deflects every blow and gives off this “ I don’t let it bother me” attitude, but it does bother us, and we know that.

A gentleman came into my store, walked up to me without prompting, looked me in the eye, and said, “God loves you. “That felt nice. After a hard day where customers were being rude and nasty, someone came up to me and said that made the whole day better. I did not know I needed to hear it. God thought I did, and I took it as a sign from God. As men, we need to be able to uplift one another and not be so bull-headed. Be a positive influence on someone’s life, because we never know who needs to hear it to get through the day. As weird as it may sound, being vulnerable is more manly than closing out the world.

Real men are vulnerable and uplift one another.
