Title: An Example in Perseverance.
Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us… – Hebrews 12:1c
Christmas Eve is here! The excitement is in the air: family time, good food, gifts, and Christmas Eve services—all wonderful things. Today, let’s put some time and thought into what Mary and Joseph experienced.
The word “perseverance” refers to a course of action pursued despite difficulties or obstacles. When we read about the birth of Jesus, can you imagine the perseverance Mary and Joseph faced? They lived under strict laws, and Angels visited a little scary—the pressure of living with a “scandal” with Mary being pregnant before marriage in those times meant a death sentence. They had to hide and run and do everything to protect the birth of Jesus.
That is a race of perseverance, what an example in running the race with obedience. Our race may look different, but we need to run it with obedience because at the finish line, we will understand why we ran the race we were called to run.
